At Downsview Seventh-day Adventist Church, we believe that the family is the primary mission field and the foundation of a healthy church. Our Family Ministries Department operates on the conviction that the home is the “first church,” where parents are called to be spiritual leaders and priests to their households. We emphasize that the spiritual condition of the church is often a reflection of our homes, and therefore, we strive to make every home a “little heaven on earth”. We encourage families to study the Word together and pray together—firmly believing that “a family that prays together stays together”—to foster unity and allow the character of Jesus to be reproduced within our domestic circles.
We offer support for every stage of life, recognizing that everyone—whether single, married, or widowed—is a vital part of God’s family. For couples, we provide guidance on maintaining the sanctity of marriage, resolving conflicts through the Holy Spirit, and creating homes where Christ is the center. We also support parents in the challenging task of training up children, utilizing resources like The Adventist Home and Child Guidance to help navigate discipline and discipleship with love. Our ministry is inclusive of singles as well, with initiatives like the “Blueprint” conference designed to equip them for life, godliness, and future relationships. Additionally, our Men’s and Women’s Ministries challenge members to be godly examples and mentors within the community.
